The clocks have gone back, spring is here, and for some reason, I immediately feel like a little bit of home cleaning! But this year, I want to focus not on the place I live but on the body that I live in. With the sunshine and the warmer weather comes a burst of motivation to feel a little bit of that same springtime rejuvenation inside as well as out. What better way than with a Body Spring Clean Challenge!
The 5-Step Body Spring Clean Challenge
Step 1: Take stock of where you're currently at. This great 2-minute quiz will do exactly that for you. With a quick score of your Health & Energy rating, you can figure out exactly what areas to focus on and baseline your starting point.
Step 2: Choose the 5 top things you think would meaningfully improve your diet, fitness, or lifestyle for the better.
Step 3: Challenge yourself to change one of these things each week for 5 consecutive weeks. Each week, write down what you're changing, how you'll perform this change, anything currently preventing you from putting the change into place, and solutions that you brainstorm for overcoming those challenges. Then on a scale of 1-10 (10 being highest), jot down how committed you are to the change, how motivated you feel about making the change, and how confident you are that you can implement the change. If any of these numbers are below an 8, reassess and amend the original goal for the week until it's something that hits an 8 or above across all three categories.
Step 4: Check in with yourself each morning and set your daily intentions for successfully implementing the week's change. Think about what worked yesterday and what didn't--congratulate yourself on your successes, but don't beat yourself up if things didn't go perfectly. Both are simply feedback to learn from in helping you figure out how today can be a great day.
Step 5: At the end of the week, think back on everything you achieved towards implementing your change and make a big list, even if some of the things seem small! Think about whether or not you feel ready to move onto the next weekly change or if you think last week's goal could use a few more days' work. Be honest with yourself, and don't move on to the next weekly goal if you don't think you're ready.
After 30 days, retake the Health & Energy Quiz, and congratulate yourself on how far you've come! I can guarantee that, if you've put honest commitment into the Body Spring Clean Challenge, you will improve your score in a meaningful way--I've never seen someone who hasn't. But you probably won't need a quiz to tell you how good you feel since you'll have a new spring in your step just in time for all the sunshine and warm weather.
